Kitchen Cabinet Painting in Edinburgh

If your kitchen units are solid but tired, or just the wrong colour, painting them can give you a new-looking kitchen for a fraction of the cost and disruption of replacing it. We paint kitchen cabinets, islands, dressers and fitted furniture across Edinburgh.

How we paint kitchen cabinets

  • Protect: worktops, floors and appliances are fully covered

  • Clean and degrease: kitchen doors carry years of cooking grease, which must be removed or the paint won't stick

  • Repair and sand: dents and chips are filled and surfaces keyed for adhesion

  • Prime: a bonding primer suited to the cabinet material

  • Finish: hard-wearing top coats for a durable, even finish

  • Refit: handles and hinges back on, or new ones fitted if you'd like

Spray painting

For a smooth, factory-style finish on cabinets, doors and furniture, we offer spray painting.

What can be painted?

Solid timber, MDF and most painted or veneered units can be painted with the right preparation and primer. High-gloss or vinyl-wrapped doors need careful assessment, and we'll tell you honestly if they're not suitable.

Kitchens and bathrooms in general

We also paint kitchen and bathroom walls and ceilings in moisture-resistant finishes. See interior painting and decorating. We've also written about the benefits of a hand-painted kitchen on our blog.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to paint kitchen cabinets?

We'll give you a free quote after seeing the kitchen. The price depends on the number of doors, drawers and panels, what the units are made of, their condition, the finish you want, and whether we spray or brush. Painting is usually far less costly and disruptive than replacing the kitchen, and we'll set out everything in writing.

How long does a painted kitchen finish last?

With proper degreasing, sanding, the right primer and hard-wearing top coats, a painted kitchen should stand up well to everyday use. The paint needs a little time after we finish to harden fully, so treat it gently for the first few weeks. We'll give you simple care tips so it keeps looking good.

Can I still use my kitchen while you paint it?

Mostly, yes, though there will be some disruption. We work in a planned order and protect worktops and appliances, and we'll agree with you which areas are out of use and when. Paints need drying time between coats. We'll give you a realistic timescale before we start so you can plan meals around it.

Can you paint laminate or vinyl-wrapped kitchen doors?

Some laminate doors can be painted using specialist primers. Vinyl-wrapped doors that are peeling or bubbling usually can't be painted successfully. We'll look at your units, explain honestly what will and won't work, and won't recommend painting if the finish wouldn't last.
